Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is an introduction to outdoor training for Cub Scout leaders and adult volunteers to understand the guidelines of the BSA camp programming and to acquire the skills & confidence to plan and lead Cub Scout camping.

Cub packs going on an overnight campout must have at least one BALOO-trained adult attend the campout.

BALOO is a one-day training session; no overnight camp is required. It is an interactive, hands-on session including the following areas:

· Planning

· Equipment (tents, sleeping bags, stoves, lanterns, etc.)

· Meal preparation and cooking

· Campfire programs, including songs, stunts, stories, & showmanship

· Fire safety

· First aid and sanitation

· Nature hikes and games

Ask a boy why he wants to be a Cub Scout, and 9 times out of 10, he'll answer "to go camping".  Upon completion of BALOO, leaders will be prepared to plan and carry out "entry-level" outdoor experiences with their packs so that the Scouts and families enjoy successful overnight camping experiences.

2012 Spring BALOO will be held from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Camp Wisdom, 6400 W. Red Bird Lane, Dallas, TX, 75236.
